Laurence Sickman Files, 1950
Scope and Contents Note
This series, arranged chronologically, is composed entirely of correspondence to and from Laurence Sickman, who held the position of Assistant Director from the creation of the position in 1946 until he was promoted to acting Director in 1953. The letters contained are predominately from individuals or employees of other museums asking for advice on purchasing art or requesting to view portions of the Museum’s art collection. Also included in this series are letters to and from Katherine Harvey regarding her donation of four Chinese tomb figures representing polo players and letters to and from Hsing-Ching Weng, of the China Film Enterprise of America, who used footage from the Museum’s Chinese collection in several films he produced.
