J.C. Nichols Nelson Trust Office Files
Scope and Contents Note
These files dated 1926-1950 contain correspondence regarding "objects offered" for purchase, "objects acquired" by the Trust, applications for Museum positions, and negotiations with dealers, as well as correspondence with expedition organizers, art advisors, dealers, museum directors and staff, lawyers, property managers, architects and builders.

Biographical / Historical Note
The William Rockhill Nelson Trust was originally comprised of William Volker (Chairman), J.C. Nichols (Vice-Chairman), and Herbert V. Jones (Secretary). These three men were appointed on March 3, 1926 by Statton D. Brooks, President of the University of Missouri, E.H. Lindley, President of the University of Kansas, and W.B. Bizzell, President of the University of Oklahoma. William Volker retired from the board of University Trustees in 1929 and J.C. Nichols replaced Volker as Chairman of the board. Nichols remained active as a Trustee until his death in 1950.
