High Ideals and Aspirations Collection

Michael Churchman and Scott Erbes wrote High Ideals and Aspirations: The Nelson-Atkins Museum of Art, 1933-1993 to celebrate the Museum's 60th anniversary.The book was intended to remind longtime friends of the Museum's important role in the community and to introduce newcomers to its collections and programs. It was also meant to tell the story of the Museum's leaders, to describe the acquisition of its collections, to highlight the development of its educational programs, and to recount the saga of the design and construction of its building, all in a historical context. The book also served as supportive background to the long-range planning and development efforts that were just getting under way in the early 1990s.
