This material has been gathered from a variety of sources and does not necessarily represent an effort on the part of any museum office to either collect or disseminate it, although some material may have been created by the museum's offices. The collections of posters and materials from the Museum store were, of course, meant for public dissemination through purchase. The provenance of this material is largely undocumented.

This material is divided into eight series: Artifacts, 1932-2008; Archives Photograph Collection, 1901-2012; Archives Audio/Visual Material Collection, 1977-2013; Archives Non-Textual Materials Collection, 1933-1993; Archives Poster Collection, 1962-2001; Archives Textile Collection, 1977-1995; Awards, Certificates, Proclamations, and Resolutions, 1910-2013; and Postcards, approximately 1933-2007.
