Scope and Contents
Arranged chronologically, this sub-series consists primarily of secretary’s copy of typed correspondence from Ralph Coe, though some reports and memoranda are also found. The correspondents include Museum staff members, other museum professionals, collectors, art dealers, community leaders, and Museum visitors. Topics in this sub-series include: congratulations, compliments, complaints, Museum operations, work trips and vacations, art appraisals, and advice on art purchases. Included are files related to the exhibition Sacred Circles from the spring of 1977; these are found in folders labeled “Indian, African, South American letters, reports, and memos” among additional documents. Other topics discussed in the correspondence can be found in Series IV. (Additional note: there are no files for 1980 in this sub-series).

Access to Series II, Board of Trustees Records, is restricted to the current Director, Chief Operating Officer, and their Executive Assistants; Selected items related to an anonymous donor (which were removed from Box 4, Folder 1 and Box 5, Folder 10) may only be accessed by approved staff. Otherwise, this collection is open to researchers. Appointments are necessary for the use of manuscript and archival collections.
